Nexans sets world record and completes high-voltage subsea cable installation on the Tyrrhenian Link
The world record was achieved during offshore installation campaign in December 2025, as part of Nexans’ works for Terna, the Italian Transmission System Operator. The Tyrrhenian Link is a strategic 500 kV HVDC interconnection designed to strengthen Italy’s national transmission grid.

Terna, Tyrrhenian link: Nexans begins laying high-voltage subsea cable between Sicily and Sardinia
Terna and Nexans today started, from Fiumetorto, in the municipality of Termini Imerese (PA), the first installation phase of the Tyrrhenian Link’s western section. Once completed, the connection between Sicily and Sardinia will set a world record for the greatest installation depth of a high-voltage (HVDC) subsea cable, reaching 2,150 meters below sea level and establishing new benchmarks for the electricity transmission.
